April 5, 2006 – The Calgary Sport Council (CSC) was formed in November 2000 in response to the expressed need of the Calgary amateur sport community. The CSC assists supports and influences the growth of amateur sport in Calgary. With the recent (November 14, 2005) adoption of the Civic Sport Policy by Calgary City Council the CSC was identified as the appropriate independent sport body to represent sport in the city.
The Program Director will be the CSC’s first full time staff position. We are currently recruiting for:

PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Full Time
(2 year term)
Duties:

Located in our Calgary office, the Program Director will:
• Provide innovative sport leadership to the CSC and the broader community; contribute to the establishment and implementation of programs of the CSC.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic business plan for sport development including the planning, development and delivery of CSC programs, educational seminars.
• Provide effective leadership and management within a complex volunteer driven environment.
• Foster an inclusive and collaborative environment.
• Develop a strong network of support locally and provincially through contemporary marketing and communications strategies; develop and disseminate information about CSC operations.
• Work collaboratively with key leaders within the CSC and the sport community to develop an integrated strategy for achieving the visions of the CSC.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

Applicants must have an excellent understanding of sport in Calgary; a university degree (in sport administration, Kinesiology or related field); understanding of volunteer Board governance; significant management and human resources experience; proven financial management experience; a functional knowledge of the sport system in Canada; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and website management.
Salary and Benefits: Dependent upon qualifications
Starting Date: May 1, 2006 (however, actual date can be negotiated)
