2011-12 Season Launch FIS Races in Norway and Finland Cancelled Due to Lack of Snow

by skitrax.com

November 02, 2011 – Two of the first events on the 2011-12 FIS race calendar – Inari and Beitostolen – have been cancelled due to lack of snow, according to announcements from race organizers. The Norwegian Ski Association met today with organizers of the Beitostolen FIS races to be held November 11-13 and determined that the races were unlikely to go ahead due to lack of snow and warm temperatures forecast for the next 10 days.

“This was unfortunately the right decision,” said Event Manager for the Norwegian Ski Association, Terje Lund. A decision about the World Cup races scheduled for Beitostolen will be made within a week. In Inari, Finland, meanwhile, the organizers of the FIS sprint races scheduled for November 6 have also announced a cancellation due to lack of snow. Warm temperatures and a lack of snow in many parts of Scandinavia have event organizers and racing teams scrambling to make contingency plans.
