December 15, 2011 (Hochfilzen, Austria) – Tarjei Boe continued Norway’s assault on the podium with one miss in shooting to grab the victory in the men’s 10km Sprint during a snowstorm at round 3 of the E.ON IBU World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria on Thursday. In second was France’s Martin Fourcade with two misses at 4s behind while Russia’s Timofey Lapshin shot clean to finish 3rd at 17.2 behind Boe.
Lake Placid’s Lowell Bailey was the top North American in 21st missing only one target to end up just over a minute down on the winner. Following today’s sprint, Bailey moves up to 6th in the World Cup overall standings.
Canada’s Brendan Green continued his solid start to the season finishing 24th fighting his way through heavy snowfall to shoot clean in both bouts of shooting to cross the finish line at 1:07.4 just behind Bailey.
“It was another solid day on the range and I actually felt good on the boards so overall it was a pretty good race,” said Green in a Biathlon Canada release. “The kicker today was it was snowing heavy for the first group of starters and then stopped so the course was a little quicker for some of the guys. That wasn’t in my control, and is what it is, but if the conditions were a little more consistent I think I could have been better.”
Jean-Philippe Le Guellec, who finished tied for 48th, also qualified for Saturday’s pursuit races. Marc-Andre Bédard was 62nd (25:48.3), and Scott Perras finished in 80th (26:20.7). The USA’s Jay Hakkinen placed 45th at 25:33, Leif Nordgren was 48th (25:40.6), and Tim Burke was 63rd (25:49.7).
