February 06, 2012 (Oslo, NOR) – Tim Burke (USA) and Brendan Green (CAN) delivered strong results at the final IBU WCup race in Oslo, Norway on Sunday, finishing 8th and 10th respectively in the Men’s 15km Mass Start race.
Burke was 1 minute behind race winner, Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway, who finished 6.3s ahead of Germany’s Andreas Birnbacher in 2nd with Russia’s Evgeniy Garanichev in third – the final podium was similar to yesterday’s only Svendsen and Birnbacher swapped positions.
“After yesterday I felt very confident that I could be up there again today,” said Burke in a team release. “I felt very relaxed with my shooting, but I struggled a little with the back wind in both standing stages.”
“I felt totally in control on the skis today. It was no problem to follow the others, and I actually thought about going to the front to push the pace but I did not want to get overly aggressive before standing,” he added.
Green, a 25-year-old from Hay River, N.W.T., continued with his break-out season by cracking the top ten in Sunday’s mass start event. “I think when things go well I have the expectation to be fighting it out at the top,” said Green in a Biathlon Canada press release. “It’s an awesome feeling and I hope I can be up there more consistently in the future.”
Fellow Canuck Jean-Philippe Le Guellec raced to an impressive 12th place finish while the USA’s Lowell Bailey finished a strong 14th.
The E.ON IBU World Cup racing continues with round 8 in Kontiolahti, Finland in less than one week’s time.
