SuperTour Finals and Long Distance US XC Nationals March 24-31 Update

March 08, 2012 (Craftsbury Common, Vermont) – The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is excited to welcome the nation’s top skiers for the SuperTour Finals and Long Distance Nationals on March 24th through the 31st.

After a slow start to the winter, the Outdoor Center is currently boasting impressive snow coverage. We have just under 100km of trails open for skiing. Our homologated 5k, 3.75k and sprint loops have a solid base of manmade snow in addition to the abundant natural snowfall we’ve received in the last few weeks. We’ve also stockpiled large amounts of manmade and will continue to spread snow on our race loops as needed. The Outdoor Center staff is preparing for whatever weather we may see in northern Vermont in the next three weeks, but the prognosis is good. We expect to have solid conditions for these events.

The schedule features a prologue, mass start distance, sprint, and a hill climb event in addition to the 30/50km national championships races. The hill climb event will be at nearby Jay Peak Resort in Jay, VT. The women’s 30km race will be on Friday, March 30th, with the men’s 50km closing the event on Saturday, March 31st. We scheduled these events on separate days to ensure the best conditions for each race.

In conjunction with the SuperTour Finals Sprint and Distance Nationals races, we’ll be offering junior category events. Keep watching SuperTour website as we release details on these events in the coming days.

On Saturday evening, following the final races of the week, the Outdoor Center is pleased to invite all participants to a local Vermont dinner and party on campus. We will have various food stations, music, dancing and drinks from 5pm until midnight.

We’re excited to welcome the ski community to the Northeast Kingdom. We’re looking forward to a great week of racing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center – hope you’ll join us!
