November 10, 2008 (Craftsbury, VT) – Here it comes! The event that the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has named one of the ten best events in Vermont five of the past six years is now open for registration! Read on for more details of the event, but don’t delay to register. There’s a limit of 1,000 entrants and the event fills up fast.
The TD Banknorth Craftsbury Marathon will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2009. The marathon should be very exciting with the race, tour, and a new relay all combined into one event this year. We have a new course format for the marathon this year. Skiers will start and finish on Craftsbury Common and ski a 25 kilometer loop either once or twice. The Course will be entirely on the Craftsbury Nordic Ski Center’s wide, well groomed trails.
Entering a 25 or 50 kilometer marathon is a big deal and takes a lot of thought and preparation. For example, what level of skiing ability is suggested for participants? Check out our list of Frequently Asked Questions. You may feel that you need to work on your technique and fitness level – join our special weekend of technique and training sessions on snow – plus a training race. Perhaps a three month Craftsbury Marathon training plan will suffice.
Be sure to read all the fine print on fees, refunds, and registration changes, then go to the Marathon Registration Page to enter. Non- racing family members are encouraged to sign up as volunteers, get a t-shirt, and be entered in a special drawing for merchandise prizes.
As race day approaches there are yet more details to master if you want to have a carefree day of skiing. For example when and where do I pick up my race packet, get on the bus, find my start time, and get food on the course? What where when whys are all here.
Hope to see you on the starting line in January.
Think snow,
John Brodhead, Ski Director
