NC World Cup # 4 Val di Fiemme – Demong 4th

January 10, 2009 (Val di Fiemme, Italy) – The USA’s Bill Demong finished in fourth place after the mass start and two rounds of jumping at the NC World Cup event in Val di Fiemme, Italy. The unique mass start event, where the cross-country precedes the jumps, and finishes with a two-jump final round. Norway’s Magus Moan came on strong in the second half of the race to take the lead over Germany’s Bjoern Kircheisen. Demong was 7.7 seconds back. Johnny Spillane (Steamboat Springs, CO), dominated the first half of the race and led through 5km, but faded in the final 5km to finish seventh, 51.9 seconds back. In the end Kirsheisen previaled to win the event as Moan sputtered in the jumping rounds to end up 7th overall.

After two rounds of jumping Demong remained in 4th place with 252.2 pts, while Spillane has dropped to 19th place with 218.7 pts. Brett Camerota in 43rd position. His brother Eric was 4th today in a Continental cup event in Klingenthal, Germany.
