October 06, 2012 (Bend, OR) – Bend Endurance Academy will offer six development programs for cross country skiing in Central Oregon this winter. Programs are designed for participants ages 3 through adult. Activities are conducted at the Virginia Meissner Sno-park with free transportation provided for youth and junior programs. A Nordic program meeting, for both new and returning participants, will be held at the Bend Endurance Academy Conference room located at 500 SW Bond Street on Thursday, November 1st at 6:30pm. 2012-2013 Programs include:
Mini Nordies: Ages 3-6, Two Sessions: Winter Break and February. Easy introductory ski skills and fun games with small class sizes. Parents can enjoy the ski trails while children are in class. Four practices per session lasting 1 hr each.
Nordic Youth Club: Ages 7-11. Saturdays and/or Sundays for 10 weekends, December 8- February 24. Also includes a camp during Winter Break. Introduces basic skate and classic techniques through games and adventures. Transportation provided.
Middle School Nordic Development Team: For middle schoolers ages 11-14. Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday, November 14-March 10. This program allows participants to ski in small groups based on ability and improve their classic and skate techniques in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Includes camps during Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Transportation provided.
High School Nordic Development Team: For high schoolers ages 14-18. Weekdays or Weekend enrollment options, November 14- March 10. Participants improve skiing efficiency by working with coaches and teammates in small groups. Participants are encouraged to fully participate in their High School Nordic teams. Includes camps during Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Transportation provided.
Nordic Masters: For adults. Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday morning enrollment options. Skate Technique. December 11-February 17. Join a lively, social group to improve skiing efficiency through successful technique progressions.
Nordic Competition Team: Ages 14-23, Tuesday-Sunday, September 4-May 1. A structured, competition-oriented, year round training group that encourages high school and college aged athletes to reach their skiing goals. High school athletes are encouraged to fully participate in their high school Nordic teams. Transportation provided.
The Bend Endurance Academy “promotes healthy living through active, outdoor experiences. We emphasize teamwork, personal growth and community responsibility.” The Academy is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization providing Nordic skiing, Cycling, and Rock Climbing development programs in the Deschutes National Forest under a Special Use Permit from the US Forest Service.
