March 10, 2009 (Snowbasin, UT) – The spotlight continues to shine on Rebecca (Dussault) as she took to the snow once again this weekend. Competing at the 2009 Xterra Winter World Championships in Snowbasin, UT, she hammered out another victory in the quadrathlon World Championship event.
Brian Smith of Gunnison won for the men so it was another great day for the Gunnison-Crested Butte Valley. The race started with the men and women on their mountain bikes taking off down a steep long descent on packed xc ski trails. After 10km of biking they slipped into their snowshoes and did a 5k loop through the woods. Rebecca got off to a good start on the bike and opened up a gap on the snowshoe.
Rebecca continued to put pressure on the rest of the field as she transitioned into her running shoes for another 5 kilometers. By the time she was heading up the mountain on her randonnee gear she had a 5-minute and 48 second lead over second place. It was impressive to see Rebecca so calm and relaxed as she skinned by the boys and I.
We ended up doing our own little Xterra as we snowshoed around the different courses. We watched as she made her way down the giant slalom gates to victory in a margin of 15 minutes over 2nd place. She finished the race in 2 hours and 26 minutes. It was another great day of racing for the Dussaultskis. Thanks be to God! A great victory on the Lord’s Day. She dedicated the race to her good friend Jess who lost her husband Paul, way too soon, in an avalanche this time of year in 2007. God rest his soul. Thanks to all of our sponsors who continue to believe in us and support us. We couldn’t do it without you.Â
Rebecca continues her racing next weekend in Canada at the Canadian Nationals where she will race the 30km skate race.
Hope all of you are doing well. Stay in touch.
