December 8, 2009 (Canmore, AB) – The Alberta Cup took place in Canmore, December 5-6. Canada’s World Cup skiers were competing overseas, so it was a chance for upcoming stars to shine. Day 1 held the sprint competitions and saw Dasha Gaiazova and Phil Widmer charge to victory in the men’s and women’s events, respectively.
On the following day, it was the distance athletes’ turn to hit the snow. Rhonda Jewett and Pate Neumann prevailed in chilly Canmore during mass start women’s and men’s skate events. Jewett had a comfortable lead over second place Eva Szabo, and Megan McTavish. Neumann also finished with a secure margin as Mike Argue beat out Brian McKeever for third.
