January 16, 2010 (Rupholding, Germany) – It was clean shooting that won it for Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen at the IBU World Cup men’s 15km mass start in Rupholding on Saturday. Russian Evgeny Ustyugov’s miss on the final shooting stage, along with Simon Eder’s (Aus) miss in the third shooting session, decided the final 1-2-3 placements as the top three men finished within 10 seconds of each other.
Tim Burke (USA) had a hard time on the last two legs of the race but shot 17/20 to finish 19th in 40:37.0. For Canada, Jean Philippe Le Guellec shot extremely well with only one penalty in the final stage to finish 22nd in 40:50.9.
Ustyugov takes over the leader’s bib from Burke who now sits in 4th overall while Le Guellec is 29th. Svendsen is second overall while Simon Fourcade (FRA) is 3rd and Ole Einer Bjoerndalen (NOR) is in 5th.
