February 4, 2010 (Canmore, Alberta) – Canmore’s cross country trails are bustling with the world’s elite xc skiers as the FIS XC World Cup gets ready to kick off on Friday. Tomorrow’s event is the women’s 10km and men’s 15km skate race, followed by Saturday’s classic sprints on what is being billed as the toughest course on the WCup circuit. Canmore’s downtown Main Street is also open to skiers this weekend.
Hugh Tafel, Chair of Canmore’s downtown Business Revitalization Zone explains: “When we asked ‘what can we do to make the last World Cup Event before the Olympics a truly memorable and moving experience?’ we said; “wouldn’t it be amazing if we could bring skiing and our winter carnival right downtown?”
For three whole days, two blocks of Main Street in Canmore will be closed to vehicular traffic, and instead, kids on skis and youngsters on sleds, will add to the carnival spirit of the World Cup weekend – read more here.
