January 28, 2014 (Salzburg, Austria) – Just prior to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games three athletes have been suspended by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) for doping reports the French daily L’Équipe, citing the German press agency, DPA. Details remain sparse, but it seems that the three are from Russia and Lithuania; their names have not been revealed. All three tested positive in doping tests taken between IBU Biathlon World Cup events at d’Annecy-Le Grand Bornand, France (December 12-15) and Oberhof, Germany (January 3-5). The suspension is provisional until their B samples can be analyzed.
