Classic Sprint Champions Crowned on Day Two of the 2014 Junior XC Ski National Championships UPDATED

March 05, 2014 (Stowe, Vermont) – Day Two featured the 1.4km CL sprints at the 2014 Junior National Championships hosted at Vermont’s Trapp Family Lodge, as Team New England’s Fabian Stocek (Holderness School) and Heidi Halvorsen (Green Mountain Valley School Ski) raced to the top step of the podium in the MU20 men’s and women’s fields.

Female under 20 – Heidi Halvorsen (Team New England) [P] Mark Nadell

Peter Holmes (Unleashed Coaching) took the win in the MU18 race while Julia Kern (Cambridge Sports U) gave Team New England another victory in the FU18 race. In the MU16 race Forrest Hamilton (Mansfield Nordic) grabbed another win for Team New England while Amanda Kautzer (Loppet Nordic Racing) was the fastest skier in the FU16 race.

Awards for today’s medal races were presented by Johannes von Trapp, President of the Trapp Family Lodge and Brewery, and by Skida Apparel Company founder Corinne Prevot, as well as Patrice Spyrka of Jakroo Custom Apparel.

Tonight’s festivities include a Coach’s Dinner at the Piecasso Pizzeria on Stowe’s Mountain Road. Organizer Kristina von Trapp Frame commented, “When my dad decided to start a cross country ski program next to the family’s little Lodge back in 1968, he never imagined it would come to this kind of amazing celebration.  We are so grateful to be a part of all this.”

The competition continues on Friday, March 7, with 5k and 10k Freestyle heats. Thursday is an official training day.
