Nordic Athletes Sidelined at Games due to High Hemoglobin

February 15, 2010 (Vancouver, BC) – Two Nordic athletes have been barred from Olympic competition, February 12-16 due to high blood hemoglobin levels, which may indicate doping, but also could be naturally occurring due to factors such as genetics and dehydration. Niyaz Nabeev (RUS) and Kaspar Kokk (EST) have been prohibited by the FIS from competing in the Nordic Combined and XC skiing events, respectively, for their own safety, they are not being sanctioned for doping, reports BBC Sport.
