February 17, 2015 (Falun, Sweden) – Five years ago, at the 47th International Ski Congress in Antalya (TUR), Falun was elected to host the FIS Nordic World Championships in 2015. Now, Falun is ready.
Opening Ceremony
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be officially opened on Wednesday, 18th February. Earlier last autumn, the Dalarna band Mando Diao released the official World Championships song, Love Last Forever. The band will perform it at the Opening Ceremony.
“We are thrilled that Mando Diao will play the official song live at the Opening Ceremony, which will be the first time it is performed at an outdoor venue. In addition, our programme features many excellent artists, and most of them come from Dalarna. Kalle Moraeus and Miss Li are two of those who will entertain us at the Opening Ceremony, “explains Sven von Holst.
Besides the musical programme, there will be a parade of participating nations and the official declaration by Gian Franco Kasper, President of the International Ski Federation, to open the Championships. The ceremony will conclude with fireworks.
Live Arena – A unique digital reality experience
Live Arena Falun2015 is a unique experience that invites the world to Falun. The app is developed for tablets with innovative 3D technology.
Fans will be able to participate in the Cross-Country competitions during the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun through their favourite skier’s point of view and follow the races live in the unique 3D environment. Fans can also select the Live TV camera of their choice from the cross-country tracks and ski jumping hill.

Falun 2015 Offers Sport and Culture
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will not offer only breath-taking and unforgettable sport moments. The town will be also full of culture. On the same day as the first medals are awarded on Thursday 19th February, the launch of Culture of Dalarna is scheduled, which is the overarching name for all cultural activities during the World Championships.
“We feature many exciting cultural experiences. A great majority are connected to Dalarna. We want to showcase the cultural breadth that the province has to offer, “ says Mats Omne, project manager for Culture of Dalarna.
Most of Culture of Dalarna activities take place in the centre of Falun and Lugnet. Dalarna municipalities will be presenting different types of entertainment (everything from DJs to bands and more) for two hours before the start of each competition day along the World Championships Avenue – the pedestrian way from the Scandic hotel to the main entrance at Lugnet.
The activities taking place in the centre of Falun include the children and youngsters’ area ‘Youth Park’ (in Läroverk Park), the street art area ‘Art Park’ (at Fisktorget), and 15 ice sculptures created by 15 artists from around Dalarna just outside of the Dalarna Museum.
Culture of Dalarna – Programme during Falun 2015
1. Magasinet
World Championships Party with music ranging from soul to jazz, classic and indie pop, in the unique atmosphere of Magasinet. Presented by cooperation among Magasinet Cultural Association, Bergstenska Cultural Association and Music in Dalarna.
2. Falun Walk of Art, Åsgatan
Projections and LED light shows together with students from the audio-visual production programme at Dalarna University.
3. Youth Park, Läroverk Park
Numerous creative school projects, fashion show, open-air cinema, climbing wall, performances, sales booths by young entrepreneurs and other activities.
4. Market Square
In centre of Falun, some 50 sales booths offering food from around the world, partner products, and more. The Market Square will be situated on Östra Hamngatan between Fisktorget and Nybron as well as along Falugatan.
5. Market Hall
Market Hall on Östra Hamngatan with approximately 15 sales booths selling locally produced food from Dalarna.
6. Ice Sculptures at Faluån/Medborgarplatsen
Artists from Dalarna municipalities participated in a workshop with artist Elisabeth Kristensen to create 15 beautiful ice sculptures.
7. Art Park, Fisktorget
Live painting of a massive Dala Horse and body painting in a glass cube every other evening. Graffiti walls for the public, laser graffiti, DJs.
8. Festival Tent
Entertainment and after-ski with cover bands every night in a large tent at the former post parking area.
9. Medal Plaza, Stora Torget
Award ceremonies every day at 20.15 CET, entertainment by Dalarna artists and bands starting at 19.00 CET.
10. Boutique & Gallery Street – Slaggatan
Exhibition by Veronica Brovall at Gallery Se. Directly opposite, Pia Rudolfson Anliot working in Gallery KiD’s temporary atelier in the evenings
11. Kristine Hall
Dalarna music schools stage two concerts with participation from outside the province, free entry. Falun Chamber Choir concert on 22nd February.
12. Kristine Church, Stora Torget
Concerts every evening after award ceremonies.
13. Falun City Library
Daily activities with readings and other fun for children of different ages, including readings with contemporary authors.
14. Dalarna Museum
Exhibition by Dalarna photographers, Hagström exhibition, craftsmen, Dalarna’s oldest ski, concert.
15. Carl Larsson & Anders Zorn, Art Hall façade
Projections by Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn on the façade of the Art Hall.
16. P&L Film Festival, Bryggcafé
Free of charge outdoor showings of fantastic short films by filmmakers from nations participating in Falun 2015. Every evening at 18.00 CET, including glimpses of next summer’s festival.
17. Falun Folk Nights, Old Electricity Works & Cultural House Tio14
Three full-packed evenings with top-level folk music at the Elverket and a great concluding music show at Cultural House Tio14.
18. Dalarna Theatre /Cultural House Tio14
Dalarna Theatre playing Tant Blomma/Rut and Ragnar by Kristina Lugn around 17 CET during Falun 2015.
20. Gallery Hörnan, Library
Exciting graphics exhibition focused on Falun 2015 prepared by Falun’s graphical arts workshop together with 21 students from Söderbaumska School.

Dalarna municipality stages, along World Championships Avenue
A total of seven stages to the north and south of the entrances to the Lugnet Arena, where artists from various Dalarna municipalities perform daily for two hours before the start of the competitions.
