February 26, 2015 (Falun, SWE) – Severin Freund, 26, delivered Germany’s third gold taking the large hill HS134-meter competition with a clear victory in Falun on Thursday evening. Freund set a new hill record ending up about 22 points ahead of Gregor Schlierenzauer (Aus) and Norway’s Rune Velta.
American Mike Glasder, who soared to a strong 33rd in qualifying Wednesday, flew 102.5 meters to finish 46th. It was Glasder’s first appearance at a major event. The Norge Ski Club jumper was a late addition to the team after Nick Alexander suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s mixed team event. Glasder came into Falun on the heels of a strong weekend at a FIS Continental Cup in Iron Mountain, MI where he had a career best 13th. Will Rhoads placed 41st in the qualifications and just missed advancing to the final as only the top 40 qualify.
“I had two great jumps here tonight and even improved my own hill record. So yes, it was a great day for me,” said Freund post-race.
