March 30, 2015 (Labrador, NF) – On a beautiful Labrador blue ski full of sunshine day, over a hundred excited participants were at the start lines  for the 40th Great Labrador Loppet. Most skiers and snowshoers were in the 10km event, but the 28km and 50km events were very exciting too. One person ran the 28km on snowshoes. Besides local participants, people came from British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and the island of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The trails were a skiers heaven, done to perfection for classic and free technique, groomed with excellent support from Menihek Nordic and Whitewolf Snowmobile Club.

The feed stations along the route were fully stocked with volunteers and food, dolling out cookies, fruit, juices, soup and hotdogs to keep everyone powered up. The Wabush Tent at Duley Park feed station was great.

Security and communications along the full length of the route was excellent, with Town of Labrador City, RNC, Army cadets, Search & Rescue, HAM Radio Group, RNC & white wolf patrollers.

At finish line at Whitewolf snowmobile club, the ladies had all kinds of soup, chili, fruit and beverages. The youth presentation & awards took place here. Mickey and Minnie, the mascots were as far away from Disney Land as you can get.

In the evening, at Smokey Mountain Ski Club, the adult presentations and awards were held with an excellent steak dinner and great music after for dancing late into the night. PAL-Provincial Airlines, the major sponsor gave away two airline tickets to anywhere they fly.

This was an excellent event made possible by all the volunteers and sponsors, we are so appreciative of them.

Georges Girard, a Master Skier from Beauport, Quebec, once said: “You cannot be at the finish line, if you are not at the starting line.” – so true.
