by John Symon

le-Salon-du-skiApril 19, 2015 (Quebec City, QC) – The first annual Salon du Ski et Sports d’Hiver (Ski and Winter Sports Show) is slated to take place from Nov. 13-15, 2015 in Quebec City. Organizer Christian Rodrigue says the show is “…for all outdoor, non-motorized winter sports” including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, back country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, sledding, telemark skiing, ice climbing, winter running, winter camping, dog sledding, etc.

Admittance is free for show attendees and according to Rodrigue there will be 27 hours of show time between 8am on Friday, Nov. 13 and 5pm on Sunday, Nov. 15. Exhibitors are intended to set up on Thursday, Nov. 12 while Sunday evening is for tear down.

Rodrigue is expecting some 150 exhibitors and 15,000 show attendees for the inaugural edition; he is also working to attract “renowned” guest speakers. The format seems largely based on the popular Salon Info-Vélo bike show that Rodrigue recently acquired from Jean-Yves Labonté. He is also the president of Mordicus, a marketing firm in Quebec City.

The 30th edition of the Salon Info-Vélo bike show held in March attracted some 13,000 attendees while a rival bike show was staged on the previous weekend. Both events are held at the Cruise Ship Terminal on Dalhousie Street in the historic Old Port. This glass-walled building affords magnificent views across the St. Lawrence River to Lévis on the far shore. Within walking distance are numerous hotels and restaurants of Quebec City’s tourist district.
