The Nordic Academy program begins in spring and continues until the end of the season to prepare juniors for national and international level competition. The training environment in Rossland, BC is unparalleled. The athlete will find many kilometers of tracks and trails for running, great roller skiing on quiet roads and a 5-month ski season.
Glacier skiing takes place from July to September, continuing with training at local Black Jack Nordic Club as of November. The Black Jack Skier Development program developed such skiers as Jill Reynolds (National Talent Squad / engineering student at University of Calgary), Julien Locke (Junior National Champ, Senior National Medal winner) and David Palmer (National Junior Champ, World Junior Championship Team Member / commercial pilot). The club also developed both British Columbia skiers to attend the Olympics in recent years (Rhonda DeLong and George Grey). Head coach David Wood is the former Canadian National Team Head Coach and is renowned as the most successful Canadian Coach in history.
“With the Academy program, we as coaches are in close contact with the teachers and school staff to make sure that the quality of education is not compromised with all the travel and time missed for competitions” David said. The program features a flexible and personalized education program that allows students to excel in their courses with the flexibility needed to train and travel to compete.
