March 19, 2016 (Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia) – Finland’s Kaisa Makarainen captured the 10km women’s pursuit gold medal two days after winning the sprint event at the final round of the BMW IBU World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. She recovered from single penalties in the first prone and first standing stages to finish in 30:06.7.
France’s Marie Dorin Habert, with one penalty, finished second, 1.5 seconds back. Italy’s Dorothea Wierer matched Dorin Habert at the shooting range but finished third, 5.7 behind Makarainen. Gabriela Soukalova (CZE) in 4th claimed the women’s pursuit series title for the crystal globe.
Dunklee finishes 12th in the World Cup pursuit rankings and is currently 14th in the overall standings with tomorrow’s mass start the only World Cup race left in the season. “With the exception of one disappointing standing stage I am happy with how I raced,” said Dunklee. “I am definitely tired, but still hungry to keep fighting until the end. We finish the World Cup season with the mass start tomorrow and I’m feeling inspired after watching Tim nail a couple top-6’s.”
Canada’s Julia Ransom shot clean to move up 20 spots and finish the day in 34th.
