May 31, 2016 (Guelph, ON) – The University of Guelph is seeking a qualified coach for it’s Varsity Nordic Ski Team for approximately 6 months from Sept-Feb. Duties include developing training programs, running fall and winter training camps etc. and other normal coaching responsibilities.
Background: The University of Guelph Department of Athletics supports a varsity Nordic ski team as part of its athletics programming. The team usually consists of 12-18 athletes. Seeking a coach to develop training plans, facilitate team practices and training camps, and offer support (logistics and waxing).
Qualifications of Successful Applicant: Applicant should have coaching experience, have obtained at least NCCP Level 1 coaching certification through Cross Country Canada, and be able to effectively support athletes aged 17-22.
Term: Approximately 6 months (renewable yearly), beginning early September and running until the end of the Ontario University Athletics championships, generally the 3rd weekend of February. Hours are self-imposed, but in the past coaches have invested up to 8 hours per week of training time with the team. Time commitment will increase during the race season due to weekend races.

Responsibilities:
– Develop training programs
– Run fall and winter training camps
– Delegate tasks to team leaders
– Assist in organization of weekend race logistics
– Wax and other race support
– Liaise with the University of Guelph athletics department and athletics director regarding team activities
– Other normal coaching responsibilities
Compensation: The position is generally considered a volunteer position. $3500 honorarium is available upon request.
