June 05, 2016 – The IOC Executive Council announced that Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) President Tricia Smith has been nominated to serve as a member of the IOC. If elected, she will serve alongside two other Canadians, five-time Olympic medallist Hayley Wickenheiser and longtime IOC member Richard Pound. The final vote will take place in August at the IOC Session meeting in Rio de Janeiro. Smith is one of eight candidates whose nominations were announced in Lausanne.

Tricia Smith, a lawyer and businesswoman based in Vancouver, has had a successful and multifaceted career in sport. A four-time Olympian in rowing, Smith captured a silver medal at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. She has also won seven world championship medals as well as a gold medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Smith was elected in November 2015 as the President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. She also serves as Vice President of World Rowing Federation.
