Under the guidance of the SIRC’s Manager of Operations, the Communications and Social Media Intern will research, gather information and write engaging and informative pieces for SIRC’s various communication vehicles (Blog, News Hub, Newsletters, SIRCuit) and manage the SIRC social media accounts.
Content Development
- Proficient research and content analysis skills to produce credible articles
- Desire to create and share the knowledge through informative and educational pieces
- Expertise with any of the following subject areas: sports science/medicine, coaching, sport training, nutrition, governance, or general sport/fitness. (preferred)
- Proven track record of writing engaging content
Social Media
- Help with the maintenance of SIRC’s website/social media accounts
- Create original content for social media and web
- Research and compile “Knowledge Nuggets” to share via social media and the SIRC Daily News Hub
- Directly contribute to generating more likes and activity on SIRC’s Facebook and Twitter accounts
- Increase followers on all social media platforms
- Develop, manage, and monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns to maximize results.
- Create and establish SIRC’s Instagram account
- Assist in the development of a social media strategy
Required Skills:
- Ability to think independently and suggest creative topics that generate buzz.
- Must be well organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable with computers; MAC and/or PC
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite especially Outlook, Word & Excel
- Comfortable working with the public in a service-oriented environment
- Takes direction well
- Team player who is able to work independently
- Components of the job could include some lifting and long periods of standing.
- Willingness to tackle challenges and develop initiatives
- Motivated/self-starter
- Excellent word-processing skills
- Excellent telephone skills
- Strong analytical and writing skills
- Interest in sport research and a desire to learn are essential
- Love of Sport
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingualism an asset, but not essential

Please note: Applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited college/university program. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in college/university programs relevant to sports/business/management. Compensation for this internship maybe a nominal honorarium and will be discussed at the completion of the internship.
