“We were stoked with the number of talented juniors showing up at our 3rd annual Speed Camp in the Park City area. There were two venues that we were able to organize Speed Camps this year – Park City and Bend OR – but we hope to host more throughout the country in the years to come,” said Andy Newell, veteran US Ski Team member.
“Our goal with Speed Camp is to create a fun atmosphere where junior skiers can push themselves to improve in speed and agility, two things that we as a men’s team think are crucial to development. During our Soldier Hollow Speed Camp we helped the kids work on sprint starts, fast V2, cornering, slalom drills, uphill gear changes, and as always finished things off with a challenging obstacle course. “I like to tell everyone at the beginning of Speed Camp to never be afraid of falling, and no matter how comfortable a kid is on rollerskis, everyone can find their own way to push the limit in each of these drills. If a skier can complete the obstacle course without falling, I encourage them to try it faster until you do, if even then they can complete it, I’ll have try doing it switch! (rolling backwards). Speed camp is all about finding our limits, and pushing past them. I think it’s super fun,” he concluded.
