US Biathlon Rookie Joanne Reid Top North American in 29th @ IBU World Cup 15km in Sweden

December 01, 2016 (Oestersund, Sweden) – In only her second season of biathlon, and racing in just her fourth World Cup event, Joanne Reid (Boulder, Colo.) was the top American finisher in Wednesday’s women’s 15km individual race at the season-opening BMW IBU World Cup in Oestersund, Sweden. Reid, 24, placed 29th in the field of 101 racers.

The top Canadian was Julia Ransom in 42nd with five penalties just behind American Clare Egan in 40th also with five misses. Megan Tandy (Can) was 53rd also with five missed targets, Susan Dunklee finished 73rd with nine penalties followed by Rosanna Crawford in 80th with eight penalties.

Laura Dahlmeier [P] Nordic Focus
Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier won the 15K individual in 46:14, with two penalties. France’s Anais Bescond challenged Dahlmeier for the win, but finished second, 15.8 seconds back with one penalty. Darya Yurkevich of Belarus was the only athlete to shoot clean, claiming her first World Cup podium, finishing third, 1:17.3  back.
