December 10, 2016 (Davos, SUI) – Canada’s Alex Harvey is on a steady roll capturing 12th sitting just outside the top 10 in the men’s 30km FR individual start race in Davos, Switzerland won by Norway’s Martin Johnsrud Sundby.
Harvey’s teammate Graeme Killick, 27, matched the second-best result of his World Cup career posting a 21st-place finish. Killick’s best result was 19th in the 15-kilometre skiathlon at Ski Tour of Canada earlier this year, and he was also 19th in the 50km CL at Falun 2015. “It has always been tough for me to race here at altitude but I personally feel this was my best all-around result of the season in conditions that don’t really suit me,” said Harvey realizing his fourth straight top-15 finish. “This course requires lots of steady work and there is just no rest. I am really happy with the result.” Norway’s Anders Gloeersen set the best time and was in the leader’s hot seat for most of the race until Sundby took over in the second half of his run to win by nearly 14 seconds. Finland’s Matti Heikkinen took home the bronze medal. Sundby previously won the same event in 2015 and according to FIS only Bjorn Daehlie, Torgny Mogren, Vladimir Smirnov and Gunde Svan have three victories each. “It is the most consistent start for me on the World Cup and I think it started with the training this summer. I felt really consistent in training with no bad days. I had really steady, hard workouts and I think that is paying off,” added Harvey. “I’m now getting a bit older too so I think I am a bit more mature and stable physically. I know I still have more to come. I’m not 100 per cent yet, but this has been a great launching pad into the Tour de Ski.”Devon Kershaw finished 43rd with lone American Noah Hoffman in 44th followed by Andy Shields in 64th. Athletes will be back on the start line for a freestyle Sprint race on Sunday.
