December 11, 2016 (Pokljuka, Slovenia) – Canada rallied to finish 11th in the women’s 4x6km relay with solid shooting using only four spares as Germany claimed the victory over France in second with the Ukraine in third.
Canada’s Sarah Beaudry skied the opening leg using two spares before handing off in 23rd to two-time Olympian, Rosanna Crawford. With the six fastest leg using one spare Crawford moved her team up to 18th at the exchange with Megan Tandy.
Tandy shot clean for the 8th fastest leg and now Canada was 14th at the hand off to Julia Ransom who shot clean until the final standing also using one spare to anchor the team in 11th at the finish.
Twenty-three teams competed on a windless afternoon for the final podium spots in the closing competition at BMW IBU World Cup 2 in Pokljuka. Russia, Kazakhstan, and Czech Republic were the early leaders as Germany floundered but recovered by the third leg to take over second place.
France’s Celia Aymonier put her team in the lead as she cleaned standing to tag Marie Dorin Habert in first. But Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier caught and passed Dorin Habert for the win with Ukraine’s anchor Anastasiya Merkushyna cleaning both stages quickly in the final leg to hold on to third place.Results here.
