January 12, 2017 (Heber City, Utah) – Canadian U23 team skier Dahria Beatty, who hails from Whitehorse, was on fire winning the women’s 1.5km Freestyle Sprint Qualifier by over a 3-second margin on the final day of the 2017 L.L.Bean US Cross Country Championships.
American Hannah Halvorsen, a junior from the Sugar Bowl Academy, took home the second best time at 3.15s behind Beatty. Veteran, Caitlin Gregg (Team Gregg) who won the women’s 10km FR interval start on the opening day of the championships, finished third. Canada’s Maya Macisaac-Jones (Rocky Mtn. Racers) was 4th while fellow Canuck Mathilde Petitjean (CNEPH) placed 5th.
“Happy to finish off US Nationals w a win in the skate quali! Thnks @WorldCupAcademy for the fast skis,” tweeted Beatty who was all smiles with her victory and being selected to Canada’s Junior/U23 Nordic World Ski Championships team to be held at the same venue later this month from Jan 30-Feb 5 – see Canadian team announcement here.
