January 13, 2017 (Ruhpolding, Germany) – The USA’s Tim Burke finished 12th and his teammate Lowell Bailey was 18th in the men’s 10km Sprint in Ruhpolding at the BMW IBU World Cup 5 for two top-20 results. Clean-shooting World Cup leader, Martin Fourcade of France, went unchallenged adding another victory to his resume.

Austria’s Julian Eberhard, who set the time to beat, also shot clean to finish second at 18 seconds back while Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen was back on the podium shooting clean as well for third place at 39.7 seconds back.

“It was great to rebound after what was a tough relay for me,” said Burke said. “I have definitely struggled this season with my ski shape so it was a nice surprise to be back in good form today. If I continue to feel good, it should make for an interesting pursuit on Sunday. As always in Ruhpolding, the times stayed very close today so everything is still possible in Sunday’s pursuit.”

Burke, who had one missed target in standing and the ninth-fastest course time, finished at 1:11.6 behind Fourcade and sits 22 seconds out of fourth place, putting him in a solid position for Sunday’s Pursuit. Bailey hit his first nine targets before missing the final one to knock him out of the top 10.

American Sean Doherty was 40th with one missed target while the top Canadian was Scott Gow in 42nd also with one penalty. Fellow Canuck Brendan Green was 64th with two penalties, Leif Nordgren (USA) was 71st with two missed targets, Russell Currier (USA) finished 74th suffering four penalties, Macx Davies (Can) was 82nd with three misses and Christian Gow (Can) was 88th also with three missed targets.
