March 21, 2019 (Quebec City, Que) – Alex Harvey is a legend both here and abroad. A genuine star and a gentleman to boot he’s given so much and won so many events that we ran out of paper. Man can he ski, and hurt, and deliver.
The funniest story he ever told was about laundry. The FIS World Cup scene is glamorous until you need to do laundry. In a country like Norway you need room on your credit card. Harvey is connected and none-other than superstar, Marit Bjoergen, stepped up to take care of his large bag of laundry. Mon dieu.Alex was blessed with two parents who set the stage for his amazing career. His legendary father Pierre needs no introduction after blazing an amazing career that saw him compete as an Olympian for both cycling and cross-country skiing. And his mother Mireille, was a doctor for the national ski team. It all starts with the parents and family.
Alex’s amazing career is full of so many milestones and victories but as he says, “The biggest victory of my career is undoubtedly the 50km FR win at the Worlds in Lahti in February 2017. I beat five Norwegians, four Russians, and four Finns and all the others,” he told Radio Canada adding that his greatest emotion was winning the sprint World Cup at home in Quebec one month later.
The 50km is a Harvey tradition. Back in 1988, Alex’s father, Pierre, won the 100th edition of what is likely the most prestigious single-day race in the world – the Holmenkollen 50km Classic.
