July 14, 2019 (Canmore, Alta.) – Biathlon Canada is excited to share the Domestic Calendar for the 2019-2020 season. The highlights of the calendar are described in more detail below. To see the Biathlon Canada Domestic Calendar 2019-2020 click HERE.
What are some highlights of the NorAm calendar this year?
Biathlon Canada and US Biathlon have worked to develop an athlete development-centric schedule. It includes focused competition blocks with an emphasis on the quality of competitions versus maximizing the number of competitions. With this structure, we are looking to improve the quality of competition by increasing participation at fewer events and reducing travel. We are also working to improve the alignment between biathlon and cross country skiing events in North America. We will work to continue to improve in all of these areas in 2020-2021 and beyond.
With this in mind, and when possible, we encourage teams with IBU category level athletes (Youth, Junior, Senior) throughout Canada and the US to participate maximally in the NorAm series.
When will we have more information about Trials?
The National Team Program (NTP) will be released by September 3, 2019. At this time, trials dates and locations will be fully confirmed.
What about Easterns and Westerns?
Easterns and Westerns are not currently included in the Domestic Calendar. More information will be released on these events at the end of July.
How do you decide on the event locations (in Canada)?
Biathlon Canada recently went through an “Expression of Interest” process for the hosting of domestic events and NorAms for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. Based on the applications received we developed the Domestic Calendar. If your Division is interested in hosting in 2020-2021, please contact Jacqueline Akerman at jakerman@biathloncanada.ca.
I am an official, when will I be able to apply to be TD or NR at one of these events?
The process for TD and NR applications will be live at the beginning of August. Check back at www.biathloncanada.ca for the application form.
