July 22, 2015 – July has been a big month for weddings in the world of biathlon, with six current or recently retired biathletes getting married recently in the USA, Canada, Sweden and Siberia.
Lowell Bailey
Two big weddings in North America occurred the past two weekends in the USA and Canada. Lowell Bailey, who has finished in the top 30 in the World Cup Total Score each of the past four years was married to long-time fiancée Erika Edgley on July 11 in a lakeside ceremony at Lake Placid, New York. Bailey, besides being a talented biathlete, is well known in for his musical abilities; his guitar playing has been featured in several of the most popular Biathlonworld TV musical productions with Gabriela Soukalova and Jean Guillaume Beatrix.
Scott Perras
This past weekend, on July 19, Canadian Olympian and regular World Cup competitor Scott Perras married his fiancée Jody Etcheverry also in a lakeside ceremony near Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
Jenny Jonsson
The wedding of Jenny Jonsson and Markus Lindbäck on July 4 looked a bit like a reunion of the Swedish women’s team from a few years ago. Jonsson, who retired after the 2013-14 season competed for several years on the World Cup circuit. One of her career highlights was leading off the winning Swedish women’s relay team at Oberhof in 2011 that was anchored by her older sister Helena Ekholm. That same relay team finished second in Antholz that season. Among the guests who posed for a photo with the bride that day were Ekholm, former teammate Anna Maria Nilsson and Bettan Hogberg. Hogberg, a talented baker made the wedding cake for Jonsson’s big day.
Ekaterina Glazyrina
That same day, far across Russia, Ekaterina Glazyrina, 13th in last season’s World Cup Total Score was married in the southern part of Siberia. Since her marriage, two other Russian biathletes have changed their names through marriage. Irina Trusova is now Irina Uslugina while Tatiana Semenova is now Tatiana Akimova.
Biathlonworld offers our congratulations and best wishes to all of these newlyweds!
