December 08, 2018 (Beitostolen, NOR) – Canada’s Alex Harvey raced to 13th in a rare 30km individual start cross-country skate at Beitostolen, Norway as Sjur Roethe (Nor) took home another win with Martin Johnsrud Sundby (Nor) second at 35.2 seconds back followed by Russia’s Andrey Melnichenko in third at 49.2 seconds behind.
Harvey struggled to find the rhythm needed to be successful. “It was better than last weekend, but I’m just not feeling that great right now in the distance races,” said the Canuck. “I’ll need to take some time to try and analyze things to close the gap.”The top American was Scott Patterson in 47th followed by David Norris (USA) in 51st, Erik Bjornsen in 52nd, Adam Martin in 59th, and Andy Shields (Can) in 63rd.
“It (individual distance start) are so hard, especially on this course here. It is steady work the whole time. It is a mental and physical battle and you just need to find the rhythm that is good enough to last 30 kilometres,” added Harvey, who has one sprint podium in the early World Cup season.
