March 22, 2019 (Oslo, Norway) – Canada’s Emma Lunder raced to a fab 9th in the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint with clean shooting for the first top-10 result of her career at the final BMW IBU World Cup of the season in Oslo, Norway.
American Clare Egan finished 12th with a single penalty nearly matching her career-best 11th-place earned two weeks ago at the IBU World Championships in Ostersund, Sweden. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia, the IBU sprint world champion, won the women’s sprint with a single prone penalty. Franziska Preuss of Germany shot clean and skied a fast last loop to claim second place, 21.2 seconds back. Kuzmina’s teammate Paulina Fialkova also shot clean to take third place, 25.1 seconds behind. Susan Dunklee was 30th with two penalties followed by Joanne Reid in 47th also with two penalties. Canada’s Megan Bankes finished 54th with two missed targets as well. Sarah Beaudry (Can) was 97th with five penalties.“There is always a lot of opportunity at the end of the season when everyone is mentally and physically exhausted,” said Egan. “I’m proud that I was able to take advantage of that even though I’m in the same boat. Today marks the last competition of the Nations Cup and our women’s team officially finished 13th, earning a fourth start spot for the upcoming season. It’s a huge feat for us to be 13th despite only starting three women in the races this season. Shout out to Joanne who was the only one of us to qualify for every pursuit.”
