CCC News: Level 3 Officials Course, Para-Nordic Welcomes Nadine Mueller, Job Opportunity

September 25, 2008 (Canmore, AB) – The Alberta World Cup Academy, in conjunction with Cross Country Canada, is pleased to offer a Level 3 Officials course in Canmore, Alberta. The course will be held at the Bill Warren Training Centre over two weekends – Friday, Oct. 24 – Sunday, Oct. 26 and Friday, Nov. 14 – Sunday, Nov. 16. A team of outstanding presenters is being lined up to share their expertise and experience with you. Details on the presenters and course outline will be available in mid-September.

A National Technical Delegate Update Seminar will also be held in parallel on Friday, Nov. 14 – Sunday Nov. 16 at the Bill Warren Centre. Details about this seminar will be posted soon on Cross Country Canada’s website, which will overlap with the Level 3 course.

The Level 3 course is intended to prepare experienced officials to assume the responsibilities of a Technical Delegate. In order to register for the Level 3 Officials Course you must have Level 2 certification (including experience in a “major” role) plus approval from your Division.

There will be pre-course assignments for each participant which will be assigned at the beginning of October. There will also be post-course assignments given to each participant that will be fulfilled during 2008-2009 competitions, which are necessary in order to achieve Level 3 certification.

This course is subsidized by the Alberta Cross Country World Cup Society. The fee for the course will be $100.00, and it will be necessary to attend both weekends. The course will commence at 6:00 pm Friday evenings and conclude by 4:00 pm Sundays. Course fee includes nutrition breaks, lunchs and dinner on Saturday.

CCC Says Farewell to Shaulyn King and Welcomes Nadine Mueller to its Para-Nordic Admin Team!

As most of you already know, Shaulyn King left the position of Para-Nordic Administrative Assistant back in May to accept a position as Office Coordinator & Event Manager with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton. Shaulyn joined the CCC staff in June 2007 and quickly became an integral and knowledgeable member of the team. We wish Shaulyn good luck in her new position and thank her for her dedicated work in the office.

At this time we are pleased to welcome Nadine Mueller as our new Para-Nordic Administrative Assistant. Her role will support the management and delivery of growing Para-Nordic High Performance and development programs. A native Manitoban and long term Alberta resident, Nadine brings with her a wealth of professional and personal skills in management and communication, as well as a solid sport background in a variety of sports in which she remains an active participant or coach.

Nadine is a graduate of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology, majoring in Exercise & Sport Studies at the University of Saskatchewan. Her past work experience, in addition to her experience as an elite competitive athlete will definitely be an asset to our organization.

Job Notice: Administrator – Cross Country Ski Nova Scotia

General Description
Bicycle Nova Scotia, Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia, Cross Country Ski Nova Scotia and Ski Patrol (BCNS) are seeking an ambitious, knowledgeable, detail-orientated administrator to work with our associations on managing, developing and operating the Associations. He/she will work with the four associations to develop programs, events and services to further the individual mandates of the associations.

The Administrator will work with the association’s Board of Directors to facilitate and manage administrative needs of the organization, as well as work with the Board to develop and build the Association’s membership and programs.

Qualifications:
·Undergraduate/post secondary degree in sport administration or diploma in related field
·Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
·High level of proficiency in a variety of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, E-mail, Internet Explorer, Powerpoint etc.
·Ability to work independently and within a team to achieve objectives
·Ability to problem solve and multi-task
·Excellent organization and time management skills
·Detail oriented

Responsibilities: This list is intended to provide guidance but is not all-inclusive for all associations. Duties may vary based on the needs and expectations of the associations.

·Manage and respond to incoming phone calls and emails.
·Respond to all inquires in a timely fashion and prepare correspondence in response to queries.
·Ensure cheques, bills, and invoices are immediately recorded and forwarded to appropriate association Treasurer.
·General records management
·Provide guidance to Board members, clubs, coaches and members regarding policies, procedures, upcoming events and deadlines and refer information to the appropriate person within the association.
·Identify new opportunities for programming, events, marketing and sponsorships in order to promote and build the profile of the association
·Update website information and/or assist the web-master.
·Attend and prepare for association Board meetings.
·Coordinate the application process for grant opportunities, Nova Scotia Sport Fund etc.
·Assist with the development and production of various manuals, document or promotional materials
·Organize Annual General Meeting and other association events
·Attend various meetings such as Sport Nova Scotia meetings, special events etc.
·Coordinate and manage the development and production of association newsletters or publications
