February 07, 2017 – The International Ski Federation (FIS) Doping Panel announced its ruling on the appeals of four provisionally suspended Russian cross-country skiers including Julia Ivanova, Evgenia Shapovalova, Alexey Petukhov and Maxim Vylegzhanin after hearing the athletes as well as from the FIS itself.
Ivanova, Shapovalova, Petukhov and Vylegzhanin were among six Russian cross country skiers who were provisionally suspended on December 22, 2016 due to the findings of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s McLaren Report. The athletes were suspended for alleged anti-doping rule violations at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Alexander Legkov and Evheniy Belov, the two other athletes of the six who were suspended on December 22nd, were given a similar ruling to their initial appeal on January 25th, 2017. Since then, Legkov and Belov have made an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Ivanova, Shapovalova, Petukhov and Vylegzhanin will have the right to also have this latest ruling challenged at the CAS, however the upholding of their provisional suspension will continue to bar them from taking part in competition at any level.Full release from FIS here.
