Frozen Thunder 7.5/10km Individual Start FR – Green and Holmes Take Top Honours

October 28, 2016 (Canmore, AB) – Cold, wet, rainy conditions greeted skiers for the Frozen Thunder 7.5/10km individual start free technique  races at the Canmore Nordic Centre on Sat. Heavy rain overnight and rain through most of the races meant tough conditions.

The snow was in good shape and held up well for the 6-lap Elite men’s 10km race won by Brendan Green (Biathlon Canada) over American Matt Gelso (SVSEF) in second with Olekandr Zhyrnyi (Ukr) in third with Robin McKeever (Lifesport NPNST) in 4th.

Things started to break down for the 4-lap women’s 7.5km competition as conditions got a lot softer. APU’s Chelsea Holmes took the win over Caitlin Gregg (Team Gregg) in second with Biathlon Canada’s Rosanna Crawford (Canmore Nordic) in 3rd. The top Canuck was Dahria Beatty (AWCA) in 4th

There were racers from the Canadian, US and Ukrainian National Biathlon Teams as well as the Canadian National XC team and para Nordic teams. There was also a large contingent of club racers from the US.
