October 22, 2016 (Lahti, Finland) – Nearly 100 participants were in attendance for the Final Inspection including representatives from the 2017 Local Organising Committee, Finnish Ski Association, City of Lahti, FIS, the European Broadcasting Union and its sponsor sales agency Tridem Sports as well as host broadcaster YLE. In addition, delegations from the next two FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld (AUT) 2019 and Oberstdorf (GER) 2021 were on hand in conjunction with the FIS Transfer of Knowledge programme.
“The Lahti 2017 team left no stone unturned and presented a very thorough plan that detailed every aspect of the upcoming World Championships,” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. “The Local Organising Committee has proven to be both detail oriented and innovative with many of the plans aimed at creating the total fan experience. I look forward to seeing them come to life in February.”
It was the ninth Coordination meeting for Lahti, but the one that carried the most weight, with more than eight hours of meetings detailing all the final plans for the Centenary Championships, which will be a focal point and the first official national event to commemorate the 100 Year Anniversary of Finland.
“From its bold look and feel to its massive efforts to upgrade all the sport facilities, Lahti 2017 is completely dedicated not only to putting on a great World Championship, but also leaving a lasting legacy for the local community and Finnish skiing,” said FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis. “The entire journey in preparing for the 2017 World Championships has been a fulfilling one and now that we are so close to the finish line, we can all feel the excitement of everyone involved and are eagerly anticipating February 22nd.”
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships are expected to showcase athletes from more than 70 nations with a worldwide television audience and an on-site media and broadcast group of more than 1,000 accredited journalists.
