Green Light for Oberstdorf at 10th Annual Tour de Ski

release by FIS XC

December 27, 2015 (Oberstdorf, GER) – Despite warm and unfavorable weather conditions in Germany, FIS, DSV and the LOC of Oberstdorf are happy to announce that, with some changes, two FIS Tour de Ski stages are going to take place in Oberstdorf, GER.

Difficult snow conditions in Oberstdorf, GER

In November and early December the LOC was able to produce about 4,000 m3 of snow. Due to warm weather some has melted and the current amount is now closer to 2,500 m3. All involved parties have been working hard to find a working solution for both competition days in Oberstdorf. In order to maximize the use of snow for both competitions, sprint race will take place on 1,200m course and a new track for the distance competition will be prepared.

Updated FIS Tour de Ski competition program

In order to give more time to the LOC to produce snow the FIS Tour de Ski competition program in Oberstdorf has been swapped. The sprint classic is going to take place on 5th January 2016 and distance classic competition on 6th January. The originally planned ladies’ 5+5 and men’s 10+10 skiathlon has been changed to ladies 10 km mass start classic and men’s 15 km mass start classic. The starting times are to be announced in the coming days.

“We are very happy that the FIS Tour de Ski is going to take place in Oberstdorf. The LOC has been working hard and showed great courage and commitment to organize both stages of the Tour de Ski. The whole Cross-Country Skiing community appreciates their efforts,” FIS Cross-Country Race Director Pierre Mignerey said.
