March 22, 2019 (Quebec City, QC) – Canada’s Alex Harvey finished 10th in the men’s 1.6km Sprint F on home snow at the final race weekend of his career in Quebec City. The top US skier was Simi Hamilton in 13th as Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway took yet another victory and the Sprint Cup globe.
“I was feeling good after the qualifications. The conditions were tough. I felt good in the warm-up, but during the race, I didn’t feel that good,” said Harvey. “Conditions were tough but it’s still special racing at home even if the last time here was more special because I won.”
Federico Pellegrino from Italy finished second on the day and second overall while Sindre Bjoernestad Skar completed the podium in Quebec. Fellow Norge Eirik Brandsdal was third on the final Sprint Cup podium. “Conditions were really tough so I’m both satisfied and a bit frustrated,” said Hamilton. “It’s hard to beat racing in front a home crowd with tons of family, friends, and North American supporters out there. For sure I was hoping for a better result as I’ve been feeling really good lately.” American Logan Hanneman also qualified but crashed in the same spot on the first turn as Diggins and Kalla and did not advance finishing 25th overall. “That wasn’t in the plan,” said Hanneman, who’s having a great season as newbie on the World Cup. “The crowds are great up here.” Harvey knows there are two more distance raced. “I gave a good show in the quarter-finals and kept the fans on their toes, so it was fun,” said Harvey. “The goal on every sprint day is to make it to the semis so to do that is great. Today I showed my form to the other distance guys, so I think it’s a good message.”Results here
