March 08, 2015 (Lahti, Finland) – Canada’s Alex Harvey led the North Americans in the men’s 15km CL at the World Cup in Lahti, Finland on Sunday placing 17th as Italy’s Francesco De Fabiani notched his first World Cup victory. Kazakhstan’s Alexey Potoranin took home the silver at 3.0s behind while Finland’s Sami Jauhojaervi rounded out the podium in third at 4.6s back.
“We had good skis yesterday and today,” said Canadian World Cup coach Tor Arne Hetland, noting the soft snow conditions and spring temperatures. “We saw good racing out of Alex – I expect him to do well in Drammen later this week, and in the 50 km in Oslo.”
Erik Bjornsen led the U.S. men in 38th followed by Graeme Killick (CAN) in 41st and Noah Hoffman (USA) in 43rd. Canmore’s Ivan Babikov crossed the finish line in 48th with Americans Kris Freeman in 57th and Andy Newell in 59th. Canada’s Kevin Sandau and Michael Somppi finished 61st and 62nd respectively.
