March 06, 2018 – Icarus by Bryan Fogel, which exposed Russia’s state-sponsored Olympic doping program, won best documentary at the Academy Awards on Sunday. The Oscar-winning film plunges into a vast doping scandal involving a Russian scientist Grigory Rodchenkov, Vladimir Putin’s most-wanted whistleblower. With explosive revelations about Russia’s Olympic doping program, sacrifices his own safety to tell his story.
“We dedicate this award to Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, our fearless whistleblower who lives in grave danger,” Fogel told CBS.
“We hope ‘Icarus’ is a wake-up call, yes about Russia but more than that about the importance of telling the truth,” said Fogel to the New York Times.
