Job Opportunity – Athlete and Coach Development Manager @ Biathlon Canada

May 15, 2016 (Canmore, AB) – Biathlon Canada, the national governing body for the Olympic winter sport of biathlon, is seeking to fill the position of Athlete and Coach Development Manager. A national sport federation located in Canmore, Alberta, Biathlon Canada is comprised of 12 provincial/territorial divisions, and is affiliated with the International Biathlon Union.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Athlete and Coach Development Manager leads all aspects of Biathlon Canada’s athlete and coach development programs, including the strategic deployment and management of programs and initiatives related to Long Term Athlete Development, the National Coaching Certification Program, and NextGen athlete programming.

STRUCTURE and SCOPE
Reports to: General Manager

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Long Term Athlete Development
– Lead Biathlon Canada’s LTAD validation and revision initiative
– Develop long-term strategic direction for LTAD deployment and engagement

Coaching Development
– Manage, and provide strategic direction to, Biathlon Canada coaching programs
– Oversee and coordinate NCCP database
– Provide leadership to NCCP Learning Facilitators
– Preparation and development of coaching materials
– Management of professional development opportunities for coaches

Athlete Development
– Develop and manage, with High Performance Director, NextGen athlete programs
– Plan and execute athlete development camps

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
– Demonstrated leadership capability in a sport context
– Strong communicator, effective at building and managing relationships
– Significant experience as a biathlon coach, knowledge of NCCP for biathlon
– Ability to manage a complex and emergent program
– Extensive knowledge of, and experience with Canadian sport system
– Post-secondary education related to sport, with an emphasis on coaching
– Ability to plan, develop, and execute a program in a strategic manner
– Ability to identify, and create mitigation strategies for, program gaps
– Proficient in both French and English considered an asset
– Valid Driver’s license, in addition to Personal Acquisition License for firearms
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Regular domestic travel will be required.  The successful candidate will be required to present a Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
