The COC is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Toronto office.  As a member of the Partnerships team, the Manager, Merchandise Licensing will lead the Licensing team in the execution of the overall licensing business plan, which will include finding creative ways to enhance the COT brand via licensed products while driving revenue and building licensing partnerships. Under the guidance of the Director, Strategic Partnerships, this proactive leader will work with all other internal departments, specifically Marketing Partnerships, Brand Marketing, Digital, Communications, Sport, and the Canadian Olympic Foundation to deliver on licensing needs and find new licensing opportunities.

Core Responsibilities and Priorities:

Business Development

– Build on the COC’s licensing business plan and lead the execution of the strategy including the creation of a detailed tactical plan that supports and enhances the licensing business
– Seek out new licensing partnership opportunities and creative ways to drive revenue through Canadian Olympic Team product
– Act as a creative brand champion with licensees by effectively leveraging Canadian Olympic Team brand assets to develop high-demand products
– Build and strengthen ongoing relationships with licensees, marketing partners and the sport community

Business Management

– Lead on forecasting and maintaining royalty reports on a quarterly basis
– Lead and develop the Licensing Team, including the Coordinator, Merchandise Licensing
– Work with the COC’s marketing partner and licensee family to proactively seek out new opportunities to expand the Canadian Olympic Team product offering
– Analyze and organize market research and prepare sales support materials to expand on current licensing categories
– Find new channels of product distribution to achieve greater reach within Canada
– Grow the Canadian Olympic Team brand in new and creative ways by working closely with the sport community to identify and communicate opportunities
– Oversee the proper delivery of licensing and gifting needs internally

Product Brand Management

– Develop and strengthen the Canadian Olympic Team brand and sub-brands with Partners in the Canadian Marketplace
– Ultimate responsibility for overseeing the approval process for licensed merchandise and product monitoring at retail to ensure compliance with marketing and promotion standards
– Work closely with the COC’s Brand Marketing team to execute COC programs and events with Partner activations related to licensed merchandise
– Develop and help execute a brand plan (including licensed merchandise) for COC mascot ‘Komak’

Qualifications and Critical Skills:

– University degree or equivalent
– 6-8 years of proven licensing experience within retail and/or wholesale; experience specifically  within the sport industry an asset
– Proven experience in licensing program growth and business development
– Strong business acumen
– Strength and proficiency with negotiating/executing contracts, managing budgets and forecasting revenues
– Demonstrated staff management skills
– Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
– Strong balance between vision and attention to detail
– Strong verbal and written communications skills, bilingualism (French, English) is an asset
– Strong time management skills to meet deadlines and deploy resources in areas that have greatest positive impact on results
– Demonstrated ability to identify and collaborate on opportunities to maximize revenues
– Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with various internal and external colleagues/stakeholders
– Self-starter and ability to work effectively within a team environment
– Goal-oriented and strong execution direction; highly self-motivated
– Resourceful and proactive with the ability to work independently
– Passionate about sport from grassroots to high performance
– Strong computer software expertise required, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook
