Job Opportunity – Director, Marketing Partnerships @ Canadian Olympic Committee

March 26, 2015 – Be a part of building and servicing a national brand.  The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to high-performance sports excellence.  We are the largest private supporter of high performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.

The COC is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Toronto office. A business marketer, team developer, problem solver, and integrator all in equal measure, this uniquely skilled individual will help lead the Partnerships team to work across all internal departments in order to support the business needs of an extensive portfolio of COC Partners.  The ideal Director, Marketing Partnerships enjoys coaching high-performance individuals and teams, identifying and implementing team process improvements, working with senior leaders in solving business & marketing challenges, proposing proactive business activation opportunities, and working in a vibrant fast-paced environment.

The Director, Marketing Partnerships reports to the Executive Director, Partnerships.

Core Responsibilities and Priorities:

TEAM LEADERSHIP

– Lead a group of eight (8) high-performing managers and coordinators responsible for the development and execution of Partner programs, which leverage investment in the Canadian Olympic Team, and drive Partner and COC business objectives.
– Identify needs around process improvement; and develop and implement select tools and approaches to improve inter-team, inter-departmental, and Partner alignment, in order to optimize work flow, communication and collaboration.
– Help set staff Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and individual performance plans that drive COC business objectives, value to Partners, and personal/professional development.  Conduct timely performance appraisals of all direct reports to encourage, motivate and improve team performance.  Coach and support the growth of team members in their areas of personal and professional development, as defined through their individual performance plans.
– Guide the Marketing Partnerships team in establishing detailed service plans that support and enhance each COC Partner’s programs and business objectives – including budgets and progress tracking.

PARTNER LEADERSHIP

– Lead and support the annual development of strategic business plans for and with all Partners, identifying primary objectives, key milestone dates, and critical deliverables against each Partner’s COC investment.
– Lead the creation, execution, and measurement of identified tactical Partner programs – both in the Canadian market, and within an Olympic Games environment – enhancing Partner value, and driving Partner and COC business objectives.
– Ensure the highest and most consistent quality level of customer service is delivered to all Marketing Partners, and support the protection of Partner rights and the maximization of their investment in the COC.
– Forge and foster positive and productive senior level Partner relationships to help facilitate effective and efficient decision making, and help solve often complex and critical challenges.
– Help identify and pitch new ideas to/for Partners that support mutual business objectives.
– Actively support the acquisition of new Marketing Partners, the renewal of current Partners, and lead the on-boarding of new Marketing Partners.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

– Forge strong, senior-level relationships across the COC organization to ensure proactive, proper delivery of Partner benefits and to build activation programs tied to Games, Athlete, Fundraising and Community related programs.
– Work closely with the COC’s Brand Connections and Events teams to execute Partner plans within COC programs; specifically overseeing Partner activations, recognition and engagement.

Qualifications and Critical Skills:

– University degree or equivalent in Marketing, Sport Business, or related field.
– 10+ years of proven marketing experience, in sponsorship and/or sports marketing.
– 3-5 years of proven experience in managing mid-to-large-sized teams.
– Demonstrated ‘change agent’ and ‘process improvement’ skills and experience.
– Curiosity for and desire to continuously learn the business of sport, and study the business challenges Partner companies face across various industries.
– An affinity for building strong relationships.
– Demonstrated best in class client service responsibility and experience.
– Strong verbal and written communications skills. Bilingualism (French, English) an asset.
– Passion for sport from grassroots to high performance a noted plus.
– Strong time management skills to meet deadlines and deploy resources in areas that have greatest positive impact on results.
– Self-starter, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
– Ability to maintain balance between vision and attention to detail.
– Digital/social media familiarity, experience with platforms an asset.
– Strong computer software expertise required, including Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook.
– Olympic experience a marked and compelling strength.
