Whistler-Logo-(1) copy copyOctober 08, 2013 (Whistler, BC) – The Sport School Instructor delivers instruction and educational programs to guests of Whistler Olympic Park (WOP).  At WOP, Sport School Instructors often deliver introductory sport and community programming and are therefore an important component of our sport delivery initiatives.  The Sport School Instructor provides excellent customer service and assists the public in selecting the product or service that will most appropriately meet their needs.  This role will also ensure guest safety as a priority.  The Sport School Instructor will endeavor to maximize sales, drive business to target products, and forward customer feedback to the Supervisor, Sport School, or Manager, Sport.  This position will require flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives.  This is a seasonal role and requires ability to work weekends and holidays. Casual, Part time and Full time Seasonal positions available – please state your preference in your cover letter.

Job Location: Whistler Olympic Park

Responsibilities:

Operational
– Ensure a safe and inviting environment for all WOP programs, activity participants, and guests
– Instruct individuals, groups, and children in cross-country skiing, classic and skate, and/or snowshoeing
– Preparation and removal of teaching areas (shoveling, apparatus set-up/tear down)
– Lead instructional/experience programs in Biathlon, ski jumping, tobogganing, and other activities or special events
– Develop a high level of product knowledge for every product and service offeredAssist team with other duties as assigned or required, including guest services, operation of the rental/service shop, or operational requirements such as snow clearing
– Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
– Class 4 Drivers License and driving experience required if assigned the duty of guest transportation via WSL owned vehicle
– Duties may include guest transportation via WSL owned vehicle requiring a Class 4 Drivers License

Administration
– Maintain individual/group attendance and achievement records
– Assist with issuing of rental equipment

Education/Experience:
– Must be an experienced and skilled cross-country skier with ability to perform both classic and skate techniques
– Possession of one or more of the following certifications is preferred but not required:  Canada Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI), National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is preferred but not required – Additional hourly rate applies.  This is a valuable certification enabling the employee to work on Biathlon programs and activities
– Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment
– Experience or skills in snowshoeing, biathlon, ski jumping, and Nordic combined are an asset
– Class 4 Drivers License and driving experience required if assigned the duty of guest transportation via WSL owned vehicle
– First Aid certification is preferred
– Experience working in a customer service oriented position required
– Reliable winter transportation (WOP is not serviced by public transit)
– Experience volunteering and/or working in a volunteer organization such as a not-for-profit sport organization

Skills
– Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
– Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements:
– Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in variable winter weather conditions
– Ability to stand for long periods of time
– Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
