Kershaw and Harvey Not Racing the 30km Skiathlon in Canmore – Wadsworth Interview Confirms Tough Schedule Sidelines Stars

by skitrax.com
December 16, 2012 (Canmore, AB) – Saturday brougth a mixed bag of results for the Canadian team at the men’s and women’s 1.3km FR Sprints in Canmore. While Chandra Crawford had her best result of the season and young Jesse Cockney surprised the field with great racing, Canada’s top World Cup skiers were on the sidelines as both did not make the heats. The slow start to the season for the dynamic duo is raising eyebrows as Harvey’s best result was 11th in the men’s 15km FR last weekend in Quebec City while Kershaw’s 17th was his best result so far.

Canadian head coach Justin Wadsworth confirmed the duo are not racing today in the 30km Skiathlon and admitted that…”They’re tired for sure. They could barely make it up the hill yesterday – both those guys should qualify on a course like that. This tough early schedule is taking its toll and we hoped for better but need to stay focused on the big events this season the Tour de Ski and the World Championships.

“I’ll take some of the blame – no all of the blame,” Wadsworth told Trax. “There was little time between these initial races and there was no way not to start them in Quebec City and here in Canmore. It looks like we bit off more than they can chew at this time so now we have to regroup and let them recover.”

Wadsworth was clearly pleased with the rest of the team’s results…
