November 13, 2016 (Muonio, Finland) – Justyna Kowalczyk (Pol) and Ari Luusua won all stages of Friday’s 1.4 classic Sprint competitions in Muonio, Finland. The competition included many recognizable World Cup names such as Alexey Poltoranin (KAZ), Anssi Pentsinen (FIN), Ida Sargent (USA) and Aino Kaisa Saarinen (FIN) who is making her return from the birth of her first child in May. Sargent was the lone North American and finished 5th overall.

Due to the trail width the sprints went old school and had only the top 16 qualifiers advance to the heats with four athletes per heat. Competition continues Nov. 12 with 5/10 km classic events and 10/15 km free technique on Sunday, Nov. 14.
