August 15, 2015 (Ushuaia, Argentina) – Argentina’s Carlos Lannes won the 5th annual Ushuaia Loppet 42km FR marathon with Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk taking the women’s victory as she finished only one second behind Lannes’ time of time of 1:51:55.
The race, which debuted this year as part of the Worldloppet, took place on August 8, 2015 in the Valley of Tierra Mayor northeast of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Organized by the Club Andino Ushuaia, the race featured 126 participants from 19 countries on the start line.
Ushuaia Loppet and Marchablanca CEO, Pablo Valcheff stated, “It was a big day for us and the best conditions in 15 years did not hurt. I want to emphasize that – especially being a Worldloppet member – we now get a chance to keep building on each year’s successes. We tripled our numbers, had a noticeable affect on the local tourism economy, and we intend to keep making Ushuaia an important part of the cross-country world in order to serve skiers. This is a mission that we intend to carry over the long term and we’re grateful for our fortune so far.”
